The re:Invent Post I Never Wrote
A draft from last December, ten months of interrupts, and the only thing that survived: one great photo from Disco in the Desert.
When I got back from AWS re:Invent 2025, I planned to write two posts. The first one, a recap of the sessions , actually shipped. The second was supposed to be the fun one: my first time in Las Vegas, the conference chaos, the late nights, and all the stuff that doesn’t fit in a session summary.
I created the file. I gave it a title. I added a photo. And that’s where it ends.
What happened
Honestly? Something else grabbed my attention. I don’t even remember what, which is kind of the point. My brain spotted a shiny new thread, dropped the one it was holding, and never went back for it. The draft sat in a folder, perfectly preserved, while the memories it was meant to capture quietly expired.
I found it again almost a year later while cleaning up this site. A title, some tags, one image, and zero words. There’s no chance I can reconstruct what I was going to say now. The inside jokes, the “you had to be there” moments, the things I swore I’d never forget: all gone.
This is the deadlock
This is exactly what the name of this blog is about. Two things were waiting on each other. The post was waiting for me to have time, and I was waiting until I felt like writing it. Nothing moved, and eventually the window closed.
If there’s a lesson, it’s the one I keep relearning: capture it while it’s fresh, even if it’s messy. Five rough bullet points typed on the flight home would have been worth more than the perfect post I never started.

The good news is that I saved the one thing that doesn’t fade. Here’s the crew at Disco in the Desert, the re:Invent 2025 party. I’m the one in the cowboy hat. Apparently that’s the one thing I never forget to pack.
